Pay & schedule
Tutoring pay and schedule for North Carolina special education (EC) teachers
A remote, part-time W-2 tutoring job. This page covers the hourly rate, the bonus and payday, what the rate covers, when sessions happen and how weekly hours work.
Hourly pay, the 10% bonus and payday
Starting pay: $23/hour, W-2.
All tutors can earn a 10% performance bonus in any pay period when they tutor at least 10 hours and turn in session notes on time.
On time means within 48 hours after each session.
In a pay period when you earn the bonus, your rate for that pay period is $25.30 an hour ($23 × 1.10).
The bonus terms are given to you in writing.
Payday: twice a month, on the 5th and 20th, by direct deposit.
When sessions happen: weekday daytime first
Our greatest need is weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, which is your local time in North Carolina. Evening and weekend tutors are welcome too: tell us when you can teach. Available hours depend on student demand and schedule fit.
Session lengths: usually 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour.
Hours a week, and what sets them
The role asks for at least 5 hours of weekly availability, and tutors work 5–25 hours a week. You handle your own scheduling, which is flexible. Available hours depend on student demand and schedule fit.
What the rate covers, and what comes with it
- You're paid for tutoring time. Prep and notes are not paid separately; the session rate covers them.
- No-shows are always paid.
- Training and onboarding are paid.
- Most students keep meeting through summer and school breaks.
- Raises above the starting rate are based on performance, going above and beyond, and results with your students.
W-2 employment
You’re a W-2 employee. SpecialEdResource withholds federal income tax, North Carolina state income tax and your share of Social Security and Medicare, pays the employer’s half (7.65% of your pay) and carries workers’ comp.
You get a W-2 each January and don’t file quarterly estimated taxes for this job.
Health insurance: not provided for part-time roles at these hours.
A week at $23/hour, worked out
Pick a number of tutoring hours for a week to see the pay at the $23/hour starting rate, before taxes.
$115 a week
Hours × $23, before taxes. Available hours depend on student demand and schedule fit. The figure is arithmetic only; it promises no number of hours. The bonus is left out here because it depends on the whole pay period, not on one week.
