Who runs North Carolina SPED Tutor Jobs

SpecialEdResource runs it. This is the company’s recruiting site for special education (Exceptional Children, EC) teachers who live in North Carolina, and it covers the online special education tutor job: a part-time, remote W-2 role.

SpecialEdResource, the employer

SpecialEdResource, also written Special Ed Resource or SER, was founded in 2014 by Luke and Suzie Dalien and is based near Phoenix, Arizona. It employs special education teachers in a part-time, remote W-2 role: live, one-on-one online tutoring. If you tutor with us, you have a real person you can text or email when something comes up. We are truly a family that works hard to support one another.

How this site, the hiring site and specialedresource.com fit together

  • ncspedtutorjobs.com (this site) describes the tutoring job for teachers who live in North Carolina. It also has guides to North Carolina teacher topics: working after retirement under TSERS, NC licenses and EC license areas, the state salary schedule, and Social Security. It has no form and collects nothing that identifies you (see the privacy page).
  • hiring.specialedresource.com is where you apply. Every Apply button on this site opens it, and the application takes about two minutes. The same application is used in all 14 states where SpecialEdResource can currently employ tutors. What happens after you apply is on How it works.
  • specialedresource.com is SpecialEdResource’s main website.

Interviews and North Carolina ties

Interview invitations follow team review. Your first interview is with Erin Johnson, SER’s Senior Director of Tutoring Operations, who lives in North Carolina. The second interview is with Luke Dalien.

Carol, one of SER’s tutors, once taught the OCS class in Hayesville, N.C.

Why the guides cover North Carolina rules

The rules a teacher may want to check before taking a part-time job sit with different bodies. Return-to-work rules for TSERS retirees are set by state law and applied by NC Retirement Systems. NC licenses follow State Board of Education rules and are handled through DPI. The Social Security earnings test is federal law, applied by the Social Security Administration. The guides gather those rules in one place, explain them in plain English, and quote the agencies and laws that set them.

How we check what we publish

  • Official sources, quoted. Rules and numbers come from the bodies that set or publish them: the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the State Board of Education; NC Retirement Systems (the Retirement Systems Division of the NC Department of State Treasurer); the NC General Statutes, session laws and Administrative Code; the Social Security Administration and federal rules published on govinfo.gov; the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; and other public agencies where a page needs them. When the exact words of a rule decide something, the guide quotes them and says where they come from. The sources behind each guide are named on the guide itself.
  • AI use. The guides are drafted with AI help. Each rule and figure from a public agency is then checked against the source the guide cites.
  • Checked dates. Each guide gives the date its facts were last checked against their sources; that date changes only after a new check.
  • Real tutors only. We publish a tutor’s first name, photo or words only with that tutor’s permission, and never use stock photos or invented quotes in their place.
  • Not advice. The guides explain rules in general. How a rule applies to you is for NC Retirement Systems, DPI or the Social Security Administration to say, so confirm your own case with them.
